Orlando International Airport reports third busiest ever month in March

USA.  Orlando International Airport welcomed 11.6 million passengers in the period from January to March 2022, a +65% increase over the first quarter of 2021. The result was driven by the third busiest month ever at the airport, with March delivering more than 4.1 million passengers (+45.6% year-on-year).

Domestic passenger traffic climbed +55.3% year-on-year in Q1, exceeding 10.6 million. Meanwhile, international traffic surged +420% in the quarter against the low base from last year.

March was the third busiest month ever for Orlando International Airport, beaten only by March and December 2019

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) attributed the high increase in international traffic to factors including the reopening of some international borders and the restart of 18 airlines including Lufthansa, Icelandair and Azul.

Another traffic driver was new services to destinations including the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Belize, Panama, Scotland and Canada.

GOAA CEO Kevin Thibault said: “The renewal of international travel confidence is certainly welcome news. International visitors stay longer, share their resources with the community, and are a bellwether for the overall economic health of our region.”
