USA. Ontario International Airport in California has announced a significant signal of recovery, reporting a strong +138% gain in August passenger volumes compared to August 2020 and recording 93% of pre-COVID levels for the same month.
More than 467,000 passengers travelled through the Southern California gateway during the month, driven by a resurgence of domestic business. In August, there were more than 454,000 domestic passengers and 13,600 international travellers.
Meanwhile, the year-to-date picture up to the end of August from the airport is a total passenger volume of 2.6 million. That is +51% higher than the first eight months last year and within 72.5% of 2019 levels for the period.
Ontario International Airport Authority Vice President Ronald Loveridge said: “Ontario International continued to experience a strong pandemic recovery in August, and we remain confident in our ability to attract air service and maintain Ontario’s status as a safe, attractive destination airport.”
