Ontario Airport to introduce VenueNext mobile point-of-sale solution

Ontario International is the first airport to offer the VenueNext mobile point-of-sale solution, following in the footsteps of major US sports stadiums

USA. Ontario International Airport has announced a strategic partnership with commerce technology provider Shift4, to implement the latter’s mobile point-of-sale solution VenueNext. The agreement allows airport customers to order and pay for food, beverages and merchandise from the convenience of their phones.

The airport company said the new system will allow travellers to enjoy the growing variety of airport dining and retail options with as much or as little personal interaction as they require.

VenueNext was started in 2014 by the San Francisco 49ers during the development of Levi’s Stadium. It is now a leader in point-of-sale, mobile commerce and loyalty solutions and is used by major professional sports leagues, colleges and other business verticals  – designed to transform the way fans shop, order and pay.

VenueNext is offered through Shift4’s aviation partner Land Air Labs. It provides a variety of consumer benefits, including mobile ordering via a web interface combined with QR codes and an option for express pickup.

Other benefits include mobile self-checkout, with similar technology to that being used at a handful of arenas in the NBA and NHL, making Ontario the first airport to use it. It will allow travellers to quickly scan a product’s UPC code, add it to a digital shopping cart, pay, and go from their mobile devices.

The system will also highlight special promotions, offering travellers the opportunity to gain access to exclusive discounts and deals for local attractions.

Newly named Ontario International Airport Authority CEO Atif Elkadi said: “We’re excited to begin this partnership, providing our passengers with yet another innovative convenience not found at any other Southern California airport. As America’s fastest-growing airport four years running, ONT is committed to staying ahead of trends and providing customers with the best possible experience.”

He added: “Through this new partnership with Shift4 and VenueNext, we are able to deliver a more convenient and enjoyable commerce solution for our travellers.”

Shift4 Chief Commercial Officer Michael Isaacman said: “Our VenueNext solution provides the ultimate mobile commerce experience, empowering customers to quickly shop, order, and pay using their phones.

“Travellers are already using their phones as their boarding pass, which makes our mobile-first approach for airport concessions a natural evolution for a streamlined travel experience.”
