Ms Lu reports how epidemic prevention and control has become “the new normal” in Hainan, noting how GDF Plaza has taken various rigorous measures to provide a safe, sanitised environment for all visitors. Customers are required to line up one-metre apart at the entrance and have their Health Code, Travel History Code, and temperature checked before entering.
GDF Plaza Manager Ms Zhong says that all staff are required to wear masks, gloves, and face shields for the safety of all employees and visitors. In addition, customers are reminded to put their masks back on after drinking water if they have accidentally forgotten to do so. The one-metre social distancing rule also applies to customers queueing at the cashier’s and hand sanitisers are provided at all counters.
Ms Zhong also highlights that the Plaza is sterilised several times every day; handrails, lift buttons and controllers and guidance screens are sterilised at least once every two hours. The epidemic prevention and control requirements are also on display on 18 large screens and six electric directory boards on all three floors of the Plaza to remind customers of the do’s and don’ts.
Duty free goods go through three rounds of sterilisation before they are sold. The first round of sterilisation takes place at Customs, where packaging and pallets are sterilised by specialist sterilisation companies before customs clearance. The goods are then sterilised for a second time before they are stored in the warehouses of the duty free retailers.
The third round of sterilisation takes place during warehouse inventory accounting & reorganisation before the goods are shipped out for sale.
A customer travelling from Shanxi province is interviewed on the programme. She speaks highly of GDF Plaza – noting that the shopping experience has been exceptional, and that she finds it reassuring to see everyone wearing masks and face shields, and scanning QR codes for health registrations.
