Malt whisky producer Old Pulteney, an International Beverage brand, has released Old Pulteney 1997 single cask in partnership with Dufry Group. It is being sold exclusively at the travel retailer’s World Duty Free-operated World of Whiskies shop at Edinburgh International Airport.
Only 204 individually numbered bottles of the 20yo single malt scotch are available. They are presented in a traditional white canvas sailcloth gift bag printed with the cask number and details of the Edinburgh International partnership.
This packaging is in tribute to the seafaring heritage of Wick in Caithness, where the Pulteney Distillery is located.
The 70cl bottles of the single cask, at a natural cask strength of 50.2% ABV, will sell for £198 each.
The American oak ex-Bourbon barrel in which the whisky matured will be on display between airport security and the World Duty Free walkthrough area.
International Beverage hopes to sell-out the new expression in less than a month. It estimates that more than a million travellers will pass through the store between the 5 September launch date and 2 October. Edinburgh International Airport reported a record month in July, with 1.6 million passengers.
Reaffirming its commitment to the global travel retail channel, International Beverage said that it will announce a new travel shopping-exclusive development in its Old Pulteney portfolio at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes. The details will be released at a press conference at 2pm on Monday 1 October at TFWA World Exhibition (Marine Village, S2/S3).
