New Milan-Haikou cargo charter route brings key goods directly to duty free retailers in Hainan

CHINA (HAINAN). In a boost for travel retailers in Hainan, a newly-launched fashion tie-up has brought forward the opening of the first international freight charter flight route directly from Milan to Hainan, the China News Network reports.

On 7 June, the China-Europe Fashion Express platform – formed in May and unveiled at the recent China International Consumer Product Expo in Hainan – introduced the Milan-Haikou international cargo route.

The China Southern Airlines cargo plane arrives at Haikou Meilan International Airport from Milan, bringing with it key goods for travel retailers

In an 11-hour direct cargo charter flight, China Southern Airlines CZ8054 carried duty free goods including Italian and Swiss cosmetics, clothing, luggage and other fashion products to Haikou Meilan International Airport from the European fashion hub of Milan. The Italian city is described in the report as “the most important producer of fashion consumer goods in Europe”.

Leaders of the Hainan Provincial Department of Transportation, Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce, Haikou Municipal Government, Haikou Comprehensive Bonded Zone and China Southern Airlines Logistics Co. witnessed the landing of the flight in Haikou.

Previously, international fashion consumer goods such as cosmetics, household goods and high-end fashion from the Italian-Swiss economic area could only enter the Hainan Free Trade Port by indirect air links or by ship. This meant a period of between seven and 60 days for goods to be delivered.
