Name change for IFCA reflects travel catering mandate – 18/03/05

UK. The International Flight Catering Association (IFCA) has changed its name to the International Travel Catering Association (ITCA), fully aligning the organisation to its new global travel catering mandate.

With the adopted changes, the association hopes to grow its membership to 850 by including ferries and cruise lines on top of air and rail operators, caterers and suppliers.

The transformation from IFCA to ITCA is expected to be completed by February 2006.

The extraordinary general meeting held on 9 March at Copenhagen, Denmark, has also approved a level playing field that provides equal status for all members, resulting in suppliers being recognised as full members.

The association will also set up committees dedicated to activities such as the Mercury Awards, a membership drive, research and development, conferences in Europe and Asia Pacific, and communications.

Apart from introducing practices that support committee transparency, ITCA will also introduce membership value that generates activities such as industry reports, cookbooks and the World Travel Catering Summit.

To reinforce the ITCA Conference & Exhibition as the number one industry event, the association has committed to featuring higher quality speakers, and to promote and stage the Mercury Award, which showcases and endorses catering innovations. It will also consider workshops, maximum networking opportunities, and environment awards.
