#musicDXB: Dubai International set to create a modern-day Memory with airport showing of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats

Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan

Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember
The time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again – Memory by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn

UAE.  Dubai International (DXB) will treat passengers to live performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s globally-renowned musical CATS as part of Dubai Airports’ #musicDXB initiative.

Selected cast members from the show, which is running at Dubai Opera from 16-28 January, will perform two shows for #musicDXB on 24 January at 1pm (B-Gates) and 2.15pm (A-Gates) at Dubai International.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, first shown in 1981 and based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, is one of the world’s most popular musicals. But it’s never been performed on a stage quite as big as this. (Picture credit: Alessandro Pinna)

Performers in the airport shows will include Joanna Ampil, who plays the key role of Grizabella, a sad and lonely cat who, in the hit song ‘Memory’, mourns the days when she was young and adored.

Dubai Airports said that its “groundbreaking” concert series #musicDXB, launched in November 2015, “has created the world’s largest stage, in which millions of global travellers are entertained through the universal language of music”.

The #musicDXB team sources renowned talent from around the world – from rising regional stars to major international acts – including ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ finalist Jack Pack, ‘X-Factor Arabia’ winner Hamza Hawsawi and Australian soul singer Grace, who recorded her debut album with Quincy Jones.
