INDIA. Mumbai Duty Free has posted record monthly and yearly sales figures. The retailer said it achieved year-on-year sales growth of 21% in December 2018, while spend per passenger was up 16% during the month. It also posted annual growth of 27% in 2018 for a new yearly record.
Mumbai Duty Free, which is owned by Flemingo Travel Retail Limited, a subsidiary of Flemingo Group, attributed the results to marketing drives.
These included The Big Bollywood Campaign and Pay Zero, which featured a collaboration with the Bollywood film Zero, starring Shah Rukh Khan. India’s Bollywood industry is centred around Mumbai.
A third campaign, The Great Duty Free Sale, saw travellers given free shopping gift cards.
An end-of-season sale for fashion and luxury items featured discounts of up to 50% on some goods, further helping to drive sales.
Flemingo Travel Retail CEO Manishi Sanwal said: “We are extremely proud of the results. We aim to continuously experiment and innovate with our strategies, and such positive results only encourage us more.”
