Mumbai Duty Free reports 21% year-on-year sales increase in December

INDIA. Mumbai Duty Free has posted record monthly and yearly sales figures. The retailer said it achieved year-on-year sales growth of 21% in December 2018, while spend per passenger was up 16% during the month. It also posted annual growth of 27% in 2018 for a new yearly record.

Mumbai Duty Free, which is owned by Flemingo Travel Retail Limited, a subsidiary of Flemingo Group, attributed the results to marketing drives.

These included The Big Bollywood Campaign and Pay Zero, which featured a collaboration with the Bollywood film Zero, starring Shah Rukh Khan. Indias Bollywood industry is centred around Mumbai.

A third campaign, The Great Duty Free Sale, saw travellers given free shopping gift cards.

An end-of-season sale for fashion and luxury items featured discounts of up to 50% on some goods, further helping to drive sales.

Campaigns such as The Great Duty Free Sale helped to drive sales revenue at Mumbai Duty Free 27% last year.
