Motta Internacional and Duty Free Americas capture Tocumen Airport Terminal 2 concessions

PANAMA. Motta Internacional and Duty Free Americas (DFA) have been awarded the duty free concessions at Tocumen International Airport Terminal 2. The news was initially reported by respected Americas travel retail title Travel Markets Insider*, with further details provided by Motta Internacional through a press release.

The ten-year contracts cover multi-category duty free stores at the new terminal, which is scheduled to open in early 2019, taking Tocumen Airport’s passenger capacity to 25 million. As reported, in 2017 the same retailers won the duty free concessions in Terminal 1 (DFA won two of the three concessions, Motta the other).

Motta Internacional will extend the reach of its Attenza Duty Free at Tocumen Airport with the new T2 concession

Through its Attenza Duty Free brand, Motta will manage 1,452sq m of space in T2. The retailer said in a statement shared with The Moodie Davitt Report: “The new Attenza Duty Free store will offer a wide range of products including liquor, tobacco, perfumes, cosmetics, accessories, confectionery, sunglasses, watches and writing instruments as well as fashion. With this new store, Attenza Duty Free will now have a larger presence at Tocumen International Airport, since the renovated Terminal 1 duty free store opened in May 2018.”

CEO Erasmo Orillac said: “We are very pleased and excited about this new project not only because it reinforces our strong commitment to grow in the regional travel retail market, but also strengthens our relations with our commercial partners.”

DFA President Leon Falic told The Moodie Davitt Report: “We are very happy with this win. It fortifies our current strong position in Tocumen. We strategically bid for the block we feel would be best for the airport and current locations.”

In related news reported by Travel Markets Insider, Motta Internacional also opened a new MAC store last week in T1, next to the renovated duty free store.
