Moscow Domodedovo launches duty free ecommerce platform with -7% discount

RUSSIA. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has introduced an online platform for pre-ordering goods from its duty free store – the first phase of a broader digitalisation programme of goods and services.

The service is available at market.dme.ru. Domodedovo Airport noted that  other leading airports, including London Heathrow, Singapore Changi, Frankfurt and Incheon are providing similar services.

Moscow Domodedovo has collaborated with fast-growing travel retail ecommerce and digital services specialist Mydutyfree to introduce the initiative.

Online retail prices are -7% lower than in the stores

Mydutyfree already provides pre-ordering duty free services at 11 airports in Western and Eastern Europe. The company has invented a unique product and successfully integrated it into the airport’s ecosystem, Domodedovo Airport noted. “Moreover, Mydutyfree provides technical support for new sellers, creating catalogues and ensuring a seamless connection to the Domodedovo marketplace.”

Over 4,000 items from the vast Heinemann Duty Free range are available online from the new service

The air hub is offering an array of special features for its customers. Interestingly, the pricing on the platform is -7% lower than in stores. Additionally, a group-buying feature is being introduced. This allows a traveller to receive a sharable link to the online basket, allowing friends to add the goods of their choice. The service will automatically place an order.

Prior to the launch, the platform is featuring over 4,000 goods from Heinemann Duty Free shops. The catalogue supports Russian and English languages.

A customer can choose goods on the airport’s website and place an order online. Upon arrival at the airport, the traveller names the order reference and makes a purchase (anyone can change an order at the store without losing their discount).

Domodedovo is planning to employ the platform as an ecommerce hub for all service providers at the airport, including food, taxies and business lounges. Later, the service will be able to include large Moscow local market stores, the airport company  noted.
