CHINA. The Moodie Davitt Report’s WeChat Official Account is approaching nearly 2,000 followers as it continues to bring key China-related stories to Chinese readers in Mandarin each week.

Moodie Davitt WeChat, published every Monday, is curated under the direction of Penelope Zhou, our Hong Kong-based Chinese Editor, and company Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie, also based in Hong Kong.

The Moodie Davitt Report is the only international travel retail media title to offer a WeChat platform. Moodie Davitt WeChat now has 1,929 followers and complements the already strong and growing Chinese readership of our English language platform. The most popular story from last week was our coverage of how Hainan Tourism Duty Free Complex (HTDF) had welcomed a new wave of internationally renowned brands including Bvlgari, FRED and Jimmy Choo. The story attracted 547 individual readers and 53 shares in China on top of strong engagement on our English language website.

Check out highlights below from this week’s edition.

Our lead story was dedicated to China Duty Free Group (CDFG) President Charles Chen’s high-profile hosting of Yu Minhong, the Founder and CEO of the influential New Oriental Education and Technology Group on a tour of the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay. The event, held on 23 December, was livestreamed with “sensational impact”, CDFG said.
We also reported that China Duty Free Group (CDFG) President Charles Chen had been named one of The Moodie Davitt Report’s People of the Year for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year. Each year since its founding in 2002, The Moodie Davitt Report – the leading international travel retail business publication – has recognised those individuals who by their deeds, attitudes and behaviour have most advanced the sector’s success and reputation.
Wellness and beauty tech sister brands Foreo and FAQ continue to make strong inroads in China travel retail. Here we report on their introduction to the newly-inaugurated Beauty Hall at Times DF X DFS Haikou Mission Hills Complex  (深免x DFS海口观澜湖免税购物城).
Some lovely visuals in this story as we profile how Helena Rubinstein Travel Retail Asia Pacific partnered with China Duty Free Group recently to host a blockbuster travel retail-exclusive campaign. The ‘Explore Your Beauty Destination’ campaign rolled out at the Haikou Mova Mall and continued with a one-month takeover at the Rosewood Sanya Hotel in Hainan.
Another strong story from the beauty sector as Coty-owned skincare brand Lancaster held its first-ever VIP event in Hainan. The ‘Uncover the Secret to a Timeless Royal Beauty with Lancaster 365 Skin Repair’ event was held on 19 November at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Sanya and showcased the brand’s new 365 Skin Repair Youth Renewal Serum.
A striking pop-up, eye-catching window displays, in-store visibility and WeChat amplification all came together to promote the CDF-exclusive Bulgari Serpenti True Colours sunglasses from Luxottica in Haitang Bay
Our Chinese readers also want to know what is happening in travel retail outside China and few brands snare their attention more than Louis Vuitton. This story examines the luxury powerhouse’s latest channel opening with Dubai Duty Free.
