HAINAN TOURISM DUTY FREE SHOPPING COMPLEX  

Looking ahead to celebrating its one-year anniversary next week, and determined to offer customers a richer, more diversified shopping experience, the Hainan Tourism Duty Free Complex (HTDF) has welcomed a new wave of internationally renowned brands including Bvlgari, FRED and Jimmy Choo.

Located in the heart of Sanya city, HTDF is operated by Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co. Since its official opening on 30 December 2020, it has been positioned as a high-end tourism retail complex integrating shopping, food and entertainment.

DFS AND SHENZHEN DUTY FREE GROUP

We also carried a report on how DFS Group and Shenzhen Duty Free Group have joined forces to create the largest beauty hall in the DFS global network.

Shenzhen Freedom x DFS Haikou Mission Hills Duty Free City Beauty Palace opened on December 18, with local VIPs, and representatives of Mission Hills of Shenzhen Freedom Group and DFS Group in attendance. The official opening ceremony will be held in January 2022.

SHISEIDO AND CHINA DUTY FREE GROUP

Shiseido Travel Retail collaborated with China Duty Free Group to hold its first VIP event in Hainan, highlighting Shiseido’s luxury Future Solution LX Legendary Enmei line.

The exclusive event, at the Rosewood Sanya Hotel on 26 and 27 November, aimed to offer VIP CDFG customers a multi-sensory experience – to awaken their five senses – through a combination of art, science, Japanese beauty and Shiseido’s famous embracing of ‘Omotenashi’ hospitality spirit.

“We are proud to host Shiseido’s first-ever VIP event in Hainan, which transported guests into a sensory world that draws inspiration from nature, Japanese Beauty and Shiseido’s spirit of Omotenashi,” commented Shiseido Travel Retail Asia Pacific Vice President Evelyne Ly-Wainer.

DIAGEO GLOBAL TRAVEL

Diageo Global Travel recently launched its first whisky e-boutique on Shenzhen Duty Free’s (SDZF) WeChat Mini Programme.

The online store, with a focus on Johnnie Walker, aims to meet the growing consumer demand for digital channels in travel retail. Customers can enter via WeChat or scan the QR code.

CAMUS AND SHENZHEN DUTY FREE GROUP

Camus Cognac teamed up with Shenzhen Duty Free Group to open the brand’s flagship duty-free flagship boutique in the Times DF shopping complex at Haikou Mission Hills in Hainan on 18 December.

To celebrate this milestone opening, senior management representatives from Shenzhen Duty Free and Camus – including Camus President Cyril Camus – attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Camus has long been a torchbearer for the channel having entered the Chinese duty free market in the 1980s.

CARTIER AND CDFG

French luxury goods house Cartier recently partnered with CDFG to launch The Cartier Box pop-up store at Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay.

The Cartier Box was unveiled in early December. It will remain open until 28 February, embracing the peak gift-giving periods of Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day.

The pop-up store has an Art of Gifting theme, inviting consumers to discover the luxury brand’s watches, jewellery, leathergoods, perfumes and other products.

HAINAN OFFSHORE DUTY FREE 

According to the latest data from Haikou Customs, offshore duty free sales in Hainan province in the first 11 months of 2021 rose by +90.5% year-on-year to CNY44.2 billion (US$6.9 billion)

That already represents a +35% increase over total full-year sales in 2020 when revenues (including some tax paid sales) reached RMB32.74 billion (US$5.05 billion).

The figures were first reported by Hainan Hinews Media Co, The Moodie Davitt Report’s strategic partner in Hainan, quoting a presentation by Jessica’s Secret Founder & CEO Mirko Wang, publisher of the acclaimed Oriental Travel Retail Observer.

COACH AND CDFG

American luxury fashion brand Coach has partnered with CDFG to set up a pop-up boutique at Atlantis Sanya Hotel.

The pop-up, which runs from 10 December until 12 January 2022, has Coach’s dinosaur mascot Rexy as its star. The leisure-related concept allows customers to experience an immersive American holiday atmosphere.
