Martell to reveal one-of-a-kind Metaphore edition at DFS Masters of Wines and Spirits

The House of Martell is to reveal its one-of-a-kind Martell Metaphore exclusive edition at DFS Group’s Masters of Wines and Spirits event in Singapore this weekend (24-25 March).

As reported, the event will showcase more than 120 ultra-premium expressions from 60 leading wine and spirits houses.

With just one piece available, Martell Metaphore will be proposed for sale at the event in Singapore’s Warehouse Hotel at a recommended price of US$40,000.

Martell Metaphore: A unique expression that draws on the most prestigious eaux-de-vie from the Cognac house, and valued at US$40,000

The expression draws on the Cognac house’s 300-plus years of history. Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud created the unique edition from four exceptional eaux-de-vie which were preserved in the most prestigious cellar of the House, the Chai Jean Martell. The vintage eau-de-vie from 1898, masterpiece of Martell’s collection, was selected by Augustin Chapeau, first Cellar Master of the House, from the personal vineyards of Madame Martell. This vintage is combined with three eaux-de-vie aged from 1911 to 1920.

To showcase this one-of-a-kind blend, a bespoke piece of art was created with craftspeople from Les Grands Ateliers de France over four years. This resulted in what Martell termed a “refined, elegant, dynamic case which incites curiosity and presents a unique Martell Cognac”.

The presentation box design was inspired by Cognac’s countryside and terroir, and reflects the geographical curves of Grande Champagne as interpreted by cabinetmaker Thierry Drevelle.

The Jean Martell signature and the House’s symbolic bird are in filigree and Martell signature blue has been redesigned in lacquer by Mireille Herbst. Fanny Boucher’s copper work enhances the material, while oak is at the heart of the creation, Martell added in a statement.

Drevelle hailed it as “a design that embodies the house’s values, between earth and sky, oak and time”.
