USA. Jersey Mike’s Subs is teaming up with US hunger relief organisation Feeding America in a nation-wide fundraiser on 21 and 22 November.
As families look forward to Thanksgiving Day celebrations on 26 November – and food banks in the US continue to address an increased need for food assistance as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic – Jersey Mike’s will donate 20% of sales over the weekend to Feeding America.
Jersey Mike’s has already pledged to donate a minimum of US$1 million but the company expects the total to exceed that amount.
Jersey Mike’s Subs has over 2,500 locations across the US. It specialises in fresh grilled subs based on a recipe which dates from 1956. The company’s passion for giving to local communities is reflected in its mission statement: “Giving… making a difference in someone’s life”. |
Earlier this year, Jersey Mike’s raised more than US$2 million for Feeding America, helping to provide 20 million meals through the organisation’s nationwide network of 200 food banks.
“This holiday season may look different, especially for the millions of families facing hunger, many for the first time. We encourage everyone join the fight to end hunger” – Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot
“Thanksgiving looks different this year. More families than ever are facing empty plates this holiday season.” Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organisation in the US. Its network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programmes provides meals to over 40 million people each year. Feeding America also supports initiatives that prevent food waste and improve food security. According to the organisation, one in six people in the US may face food insecurity this year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. US$1 helps to provide at least ten meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks. |
Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot said: “Feeding America is excited to partner with Jersey Mike’s to help food banks across the country provide more meals to people in need.
“This holiday season may look different, especially for the millions of families facing hunger, many for the first time. We encourage everyone join the fight to end hunger.”
Jersey Mike’s customers can order in-store or, for no contact pick-up at the door, through Jersey Mike’s website or the Jersey Mike’s app. Delivery is available through the app or through third-party delivery partners.
Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems Founder and CEO Peter Cancro commented: “We thank everyone for their generosity through our April fundraiser for Feeding America, which supported families during the height of COVID-19.
“While some of the country has rebounded, there are still families that are having a difficult time, and we are asking you to join us again at Jersey Mike’s this weekend to make a difference in someone’s life.”
Jersey Mike’s noted that, throughout the COVID-19 crisis, its franchise owners have donated millions of subs to local hospitals, first responders, children in need of a meal, senior citizens, and others.
