Make your predictions: The World Cup Qatar 2022 Predictor Competition enters the knockout stage

QATAR. Alan Mathew from UAE-based travel retail distributor V Group has maintained his lead in The Moodie Davitt Report readers’ competition dedicated to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, brought to you in association with Qatar Duty Free. But he faces white-hot competition with just ten points covering the first 30 places.

At the conclusion of the group stage, Alan’s score of 47 points is just one ahead of Marcel DeBellis from Beler Holdings in Canada, who has jostled for the lead right from the start. Charles Roullet from Campari continues to sit well-placed in third  on 44, just two more points back.

Below our top three we have Ground Control owner Kevin Zajax, Joost Korver from Knock Out and Behna Dehghani all on 42 points.

Buoyed no doubt by Switzerland’s fine win over Serbia and qualification for the Round of 16, Lindt & Sprüngli Head of Global Division Duty Free Peter Zehnder has moved up our leaderboard to be within Xherdan Shaqiri striking distance from the top.

The Moodie Davitt Report Senior Editor Mark Lane leads our company’s charge, bolstered by Sinead Moodie as leading woman on 38 points, just one ahead of Clarisse Daniels from Whyte and Mackay with another point back to Caroline South of Caroline South & Associates.

With the competition now entering the knockout stage, anything can happen and any player could make a surge up the table. All participants should now submit their predictions ahead of the knockout stage, which begins with Netherlands V USA today (Saturday 3 December).

The Round of 16 represents a potential haul of 24 points if you could predict each result and precise scoreline.

The full Round of 16 draw can be seen below:

Netherlands vs. USA
Argentina vs. Australia
France vs. Poland
England vs. Senegal
Japan vs. Croatia
Brazil vs. South Korea
Morocco vs. Spain
Portugal vs. Switzerland

Important note: Penalty Shootouts

Now that the tournament has reached the knockout stage, extra time and penalties come into play.

When a penalty shootout occurs, the penalties scored will count for the result, but not for the final score. Therefore, if a prediction was made that Team A will win the match, then 1 point will be awarded if Team A wins on penalties. However, if a draw was predicted and the match is drawn after extra time, the player will receive either 1 point for predicting a draw but the wrong score, or 3 points for predicting a draw and the right score, irrespective of whichever team proceeds to win on penalties.

Above and below are the top 175 on our leaderboard. With another 45 points still available from the remaining rounds, plus bonus points for picking the tournament winner, many players remain in with a chance. Click on any part of the chart to expand.
