AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND. One-Step Promotions Co-founder Joseph Malgioglio has moved into the ecommerce channel with a new Neau Collective venture.
Malgioglio founded the Sydney-based One-Step sales, marketing and promotions agency in 2007, followed by The Australian Dried Fruit Company in 2019.
His latest Neau Collective online marketplace was developed during the COVID pandemic with the aim of supporting small, local businesses which were among the hardest hits by government-enforced shutdowns on both sides of the Tasman.
Neau (pronounced ‘new‘) takes its name from a combination of New Zealand, ‘ne’, and Australia, ‘au’. As its website points out, it looks to “cultivate the traits that unite the two countries, while also celebrating what makes them exceptionally unique”. “In pursuit of maintaining the multi-cultural identities of Australia and New Zealand, the portfolio of brands that we showcase reflects our belief in the preservation of Aussie and Kiwi ingenuity, creativity, and the natural outdoor lifestyle.” |
A ‘support local’ movement inspired Malgioglio’s idea of “establishing an empowering platform that would promote the significance of keeping local businesses at home, as well as being the voice in expressing the captivating stories behind them”.
“Motivated by the craft and passion that goes into making their products, we are here to empower small business owners and their families every step of the way,” Neau said.
“Our vision is to encourage and preserve local businesses in Australia and New Zealand so that they continue to thrive. We see a future where the quality of locally produced and grown goods are cherished, along with the values and stories behind them.”
Malgioglio is supported by former One Step Promotions New Zealand Account Manager Dawn Simmons who has taken on the role of Business Development Manager at Neau Collective NZ.
Neau Collective features over 760 products across seven categories including fashion & accessories; home & living; health & beauty; gourmet food & beverages; spirits & wine; gifting; and First Nations & Māori.
First Nations & Māori listings include a Marley Print (A$40 – A$230, depending on size) which was created with the help of a four-year-old child. “I am Aboriginal, and I am strong,” the child said. “This picture should show that there are lots of people in our community who are connected. It should show community surrounding each other and giving love.”
The extensive product line-up also includes Māori art E rua ngā Tangata Pūrotu (Two Beautiful Persons); reusable Amber’s Beeswax Food Wraps; Lavender and Yang Yang Room and Linen Spray; a Kia Kaha (Stay Strong) Heart Necklace, which is one of several made-to-order items; and Mount Henry honey.
Neau Collective also offers new brands the opportunity to register their products on the online showcase.
