Luxottica’s Sunglass Hut brand gains momentum in Indian travel retail

Luxottica Group has reported double-digit sales growth year-on-year at its existing Sunglass Hut stores at Indian airports.

The company is expanding in the market, having opened a 40sq m store at Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International in February. Additionally, the Sunglass Hut at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Terminal 3 is being renovated, doubling in size. It is scheduled to open later this month.

Sunglass Hut now has five doors in Indian airports, with plans for further openings in the coming years. Each unit is operated by DLF.

Luxottica Head of Global Channels Francis Gros commented: “2016 has been an active year for the expansion of the Sunglass Hut brand in travel retail, and the dynamic Indian market has been one area of focus for us and our partner DLF.

“Airports are a particularly effective platform for targeting India’s luxury shoppers since we find India’s rapidly growing middle-class shoppers in greater concentration here than anywhere else in this vast country.

“Add to this the step-change in the quality of retail at India’s airports in recent years and Sunglass Hut is delivering strong results in this market.”

DLF currently operates 66 Sunglass Hut stores in India in total.
