LS travel retail opens Relay at London Cannon Street railway station

The Relay store at Cannon Street station marks the concept’s return to the UK market

UK. LS travel retail UK & Ireland has opened a 70sq m Relay store at Cannon Street railway station in central London. The company said the news and convenience concept has been modelled on the Relay format employed in Asia Pacific but adapted for the UK market.

In addition to a range of press titles, Relay also offers snacks, drinks and convenience items

The opening is LS travel retail’s third in the UK in recent weeks. It has previously opened Watermark Books in the new Western Concourse at King’s Cross St Pancras station and a Maison du Chocolat confectionery store at London Heathrow Terminal 5.

LS travel retail UK & Ireland Managing Director Fin Casey said: “Opening Relay in London represents a key milestone in the evolution of LS travel retail’s UK business. I am delighted to further strengthen the partnership with Network Rail. The UK team and I continue to share their commitment to both raising the station experience and driving commercial performance.”

Network Rail Head of Property David Biggs said: “We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Relay to offer a new brand to our Cannon Street passengers. LS travel retail offers a range of retail concepts, and Fin and his team share our ambition to improve the overall experience for passengers with a greater level of choice and convenience at their station.”

The Relay store at Cannon Street represents the concept’s return to the UK, where a number of Relay outlets opened in the London transport system in 2006-7 before LS decided to withdraw from the UK press market.
