LS Travel Retail opens Discover branded store at Glasgow Airport

The Discover Glasgow brand is unveiled in 75sq m of space at Glasgow Airport’s newly refurbished airside lounge

UK. LS Travel Retail UK & Ireland has opened a new 75sq m gift and souvenir store at Glasgow Airport, trading under the group’s “˜Discover’ brand. It is the company’s first store under the Discover fascia in the UK.

The store is said to be a showcase for Scotland, and will appeal to tourists looking for Scottish souvenirs, as well as departing UK nationals seeking a gift with a Scottish twist, said the retailer.

The product range includes arts and crafts, apparel and accessories, confectionery and gourmet food, toys, jewellery and sporting memorabilia.

The store is a new unit created as part of Glasgow Airport’s redevelopment of the airside retail space. All 3.3 million departing passengers each year will be routed past the store, which is located in the main concourse on exiting the walk-through duty free store, in the departure lounge.

LS Travel Retail UK & Ireland already operates two stand-alone gift stores in regional airports: The Irish Quarter at Belfast International Airport and the British Souvenirs island unit at Luton Airport.

Globally, LS travel retail operates 28 Discover stores, the majority of which are in Asia Pacific, including stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore, with the first European unit – Discover Bavaria – having opened at Munich Airport earlier this year.

Francois Bourienne, Commercial Director at Glasgow Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome LS Travel Retail UK & Ireland and its Discover brand to Glasgow Airport, and are absolutely thrilled that Glasgow is the first Discover branded store in the UK for this experienced international travel retailer.

“We are committed to ensuring our retail offering meets the requirements of our customers and I’m sure the wide product range will be extremely popular with both tourists and locally departing customers.”

Fin Casey, Managing Director LS Travel Retail UK & Ireland, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this gift and souvenir store contract at Glasgow Airport and to be, once again, growing and developing our presence at UK airports.

“We welcome this further opportunity to work with BAA to enhance the shopping experience for Glasgow Airport passengers and, for the first time, to introduce Discover Glasgow, our unique gift and souvenir experience. The store evokes the heritage of Glasgow city in its design, and delivers a real sense of the city and the country in the carefully selected product offer, showcasing both established and emerging Scottish talent.

“I would like to thank Mike Cantlay, Chairman of Visit Scotland, who has been a vital link in helping us realise the Discover brand in this very special location.”

The store features a host of Scottish-themed merchandise aimed at travellers seeking a gift on departure

LS Travel Retail EMEA Chief Operating Officer Vincent Romet added: “Working with landlords to develop unique retail experiences is core to LS Travel Retail’s strategy and I am delighted that we are bringing our globally successful Discover store concept to Glasgow. Our commitment to customer service is combined with our strong understanding of the gift and souvenir shopper, which is expressed by the fact that we have many gift and souvenir stores globally, including at Belfast International and Luton airports in the UK.

“We have a strong understanding of passenger needs at UK airports and we are confident that this new store will meet the needs and desires of Glasgow’s passengers and will deliver a strong performance for Glasgow Airport.”
