‘Love Duty Free, Love China’ – The Moodie Davitt Report and DutyFreeExpert team up for Chinese language WeChat platform

CHINA. The Moodie Davitt Report has teamed up with Chinese travel retail information provider DutyFreeExpert to provide a new fortnightly industry information service on WeChat.

i免税中国 (literally ‘Love Duty Free, Love China’) was launched on the popular Chinese social media platform last Friday. It will provide news from the Chinese travel retail and duty free market and on Chinese shopping overseas. It will also bring Chinese readers highlights of the most important international brand, retail, aviation and tourism developments.

The Moodie Davitt Report is the world’s leading travel retail information provider. Its website attracts a monthly average of just under 310,000 page views, compared to less than 64,000 for its nearest competitor. Its digital and print offering is also the sector’s runaway leader in reputational, influence and advertising terms.

The title was founded by Martin Moodie and has been a joint venture between Moodie and long-time Publisher Dermot Davitt since 2015.

DutyFreeExpert is published by Jason Cao, one of China’s most respected travel retail executives. Jason held several senior roles at Sunrise Duty Free from 2001 until 2013. He then founded his own company, Shanghai-based Amberich International, providing a range of training, consulting, channel management and headhunting services to China’s burgeoning travel retail sector.

He successfully launched DutyFreeExpert, a WeChat platform service which now attracts 13,500 industry followers, mainly in China. Average monthly views last year climbed to 37,000. DutyFreeExpert has become the most influential Chinese-language travel retail sector media.

The new joint venture deepens a long-standing informal information-sharing service between The Moodie Davitt Report and DutyFreeExpert over recent years.
