Lotte Duty Free to host ‘Luxury Shopping Fiesta’; big discounts on luxury

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free today launched a ‘Luxury Shopping Fiesta’, selling a wide range of 130 brands at up to -80% discounts for the upcoming Chuseok holidays.

For the event, Lotte Duty Free opened a pop-up boutique on the 14th floor of its flagship Myeong-dong store and on the basement floor of the COEX business in Seoul. In addition to fashion, jewellery, watches and eyewear, COEX also offers wines & spirits.

In making the announcement, the Korean number one and world number two travel retailer said that it plans to provide more benefits to customers in future by holding similar luxury shopping festivals during key holiday and festive periods.

A Lotte Duty Free spokesperson said, “Expectations for overseas travel appear to be increasing, with the number of bookings made by one travel agency recently reaching 600 in the first day after launch [from Korea to Saipan -Ed]. So the opportunity to buy duty free items is gradually expanding as more flights are added.”

In Myeong-dong, consumers can get up to -80% off more than 40 brands, including Damiani, Frédérique Constant, Ray-Ban, and Tom Ford, with similar discounts off some 90 brands at COEX, including Paul Smith, Johnnie Walker, and Valentino.

To purchase any product, the shopper must have purchased an overseas ticket or be travelling on a non-landing tourist flight (so-called ‘flights to nowhere’).

Lotte Duty Free is also holding an event to present a diorama (a small scene created of layers of materials depicting a similar concept or theme) based on the recently launched sitcom starring BTS, titled ‘Friends must fly out’. Customers who spend over US$2,500 at the downtown store on any category except tobacco will be given a diorama on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those spending over US$1,000 with Lotte Duty Free’s online store can enter a draw for a diorama. The event runs from 17 September until 31 October.

“We will continue to expand our customer benefits and events to make Luxury Shopping Fiesta one of the leading sales festivals in South Korea,” the spokesperson said.

Lotte Duty Free noted that it is fully committed to preventing the spread of COVID-19. A thermal check machine is installed at the entrances of all stores, and customer access is managed through QR code check-in and other health checks and measures. In addition, the store is disinfected several times weekly.
