Lotte Duty Free expands big data ecosystem to drive consumer insights

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free has signed an agreement with KB Kookmin Card, Tmap Mobility, and Lotte Card to create a ‘data convergence platform’ for the travel retail sector

The platform is based on customer consent created last year in a partnership with KB Kookmin Card, Lotte Department Store, Danawa, T-money, Topas Travel Information, and AB180.

The platform combines the data owned by participating companies representing each industry – for example, shopping, consumption, search, and transportation – and is used for ‘hyper-personalised’ marketing and discovery of new businesses.

Lotte Duty Free said that it plans to further strengthen its data-based business competitiveness by utilising ing the data convergence platform of different industries. This will allow it to quickly identify the latest consumption trends in those sectors and then analyse the consumption propensity of potential customers.

Lotte Duty Free has recently built a cloud-based ‘Data Lake’ that collects and integrates internal and external data. The travel retailer has also developed an automated marketing system that analyses each customer’s travel characteristics and shopping preferences to execute real-time marketing.

By participating in this cross-industry data convergence platform, it becomes possible to combine customer behaviour information from various domains, Lotte Duty Free noted.

Lotte Duty Free Marketing Manager Lee Sang-jin, who attended the business agreement ceremony held at the KB Kookmin Card headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul today, said, “As representative companies from various industries gather, we expect significant synergy creation. Through analysis, we will strive to provide customers with the products and benefits they like, at the time they want them.”
