Lotte Duty Free begins recruitment drive as South Korea prepares for ‘life with Corona’

SOUTH KOREA. “Preparing for life with Corona.” That was the message today from the country’s leading travel retailer (and world number two) Lotte Duty Free as it began a recruitment drive in anticipation of a steady resurgence in business as the country’s borders open up.

The resultant hirings will be Lotte Duty Free’s first in about a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the demand for overseas travel is increasing internationally and expectations for the recovery of the duty free industry are rising, it is preparing for ‘life with Corona’ by securing talent, the company commented.

The initial recruitment focus is on strategic planning, new business development, and finance/accounting jobs.

Lotte Duty Free Head of Business Support division Park Chang-young said, “We hope that many global talents who will lead the future of the duty free industry together with Lotte Duty Free will join us.”

Underlining its growing confidence in market prospects, Lotte Duty Free this week launched what it called the world’s first online duty free luxury shop, Sogong 1St Avenue, offering some 30 luxury brands of fashion, jewellery and watches and 5,000 individual items.

Additionally, Lotte Duty Free said that with Singapore steadily opening up travel lanes with various countries, the company is preparing for the “normal operation” of its liquor & tobacco stores at Changi Airport.

“In addition we are accelerating preparations for life with Corona by monitoring the local situation and adjusting our opening times in consequence,” the company said.
