L’Oréal acquires Canadian beauty augmented reality specialist ModiFace

FRANCE/CANADA. L’Oréal has taken full control of Canadian augmented reality and artificial intelligence company ModiFace.

The move underlines the beauty giant’s digital acceleration strategy to provide its 34 brands with the most innovative technologies in terms of services and beauty experience.

ModiFace, founded by Parham Aarabi in 2007, has developed advanced technologies of 3D virtual make-up, colour and skin diagnosis services using proprietary know-how which track facial features and colour.

ModiFace employs nearly 70 engineers, researchers and scientists who have submitted more than 200 scientific publications and registered over 30 patents.

L’Oréal Chief Digital Officer Lubomira Rochet said: “We are thrilled to welcome ModiFace to L’Oréal to become the heart of our digital services R&D.
