Loaded bases: Tastes on the Fly brings baseball Giants to San Francisco International Airport

USA. Tastes on the Fly, in collaboration with the San Francisco Giants baseball team, has opened the San Francisco Giants Clubhouse at San Francisco International Airport.

The Terminal 3 outlet is the first Giants restaurant outside the AT&T Park baseball venue. It features a ballpark-inspired menu, a wrap-around digital wall and Giants memorabilia.

Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Laurence M. Baer said: “We are excited to have a Giants presence at SFO. It’s a great opportunity for us to connect Giants baseball with the thousands of people who travel through the airport each day and what better way to enjoy baseball than with other fans sharing good food and drinks.”

The clubhouse menu was created by former Google Chef and Calafia Café & Market at Go Go in Palo Alto Chef-Owner Charlie Ayers. Based on the AT&T Park food programme, the locally-sourced menu features Papas Con Ajo (Garlic Fries), Dungeness Crab Cake Sliders and Lou Seal’s Favorite Tacos and includes a variety of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan choices. The restaurant offers a full bar.

Chef Ayers commented: “For inspiration, I combined the uniquely diverse culinary culture we embrace here in the San Francisco Bay Area with my love for baseball, beer and hot dogs.”

To replicate the AT&T Park experience, the restaurant’s digital wall showcases Giants games, sports, news, movies and other interactive entertainment.  A rotating exhibit of Giants memorabilia highlights the team’s strong relationship with San Francisco and the community. All-Star player numbers are branded onto baseball bat wood tables, settees are inspired by well-worn baseball gloves and the Giants’ black jerseys are worn by restaurant staff.

BCV Architecture + Interiors, led by Principal-in-Charge Christian von Eckartsberg, designed the restaurant to offer guests live-action sports content in a Major League clubroom setting.

Tastes on the Fly also operates Napa Farms Market, Lark Creek Grill, Klein’s Deli, Samovar Tea Lounge and Yankee Pier at SFO. The company has 13 other restaurant brands in Boston Logan International Airport, Denver International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Tastes on the Fly CEO Michael Levine commented: “SFO has always been a leader in elevating the travellers’ food and beverage experience in airports. We are honoured that one of baseball’s most historic teams, our San Francisco Giants, have entrusted us to replicate their brand to our airport guests.”
