Lloyd shoe store concept offers “new shopping possibilities” at Hamburg Airport

GERMANY. Shoe manufacturer Lloyd has opened a concept store at Hamburg Airport.

The airside shop in Terminal 2 has no stock storage. Instead, shoes and accessories such as bags, belts and other leathergoods can be ordered for home delivery.

The shop with no stock: The Lloyd opening will test passengers’ appetite for ordering products for home delivery

Passengers receive on-site advice from store personnel and can make product selections using their own mobile device or a store iPad.

For Hamburg Airport Head of Center Management Lutz Deubel, the concept store “opens up completely new shopping possibilities for our passengers”.

He said: “While they wait for their flight at the gate, they can now browse through the extensive range and find out about the latest fashion. Thanks to online ordering, they don’t lose flexibility once they have made their choice. They don’t have to carry any additional bags. And their newest purchases will be waiting for them when they get home.

“The concept is perfect for our airport. Implementing this store without a need for stock storage is a sensible move for both sides.”

Lloyd is planning to open a self-service station in the future. The company said it would provide an alternative way for customers to order, complementing the mobile options.

The concept store has opened in a pilot project and will initially be operated for one year. Hamburg Airport said it would assess data and customer feedback during this time.
