INTERNATIONAL. Welcome to the November edition of The Moodie Davitt Magazine, timed to coincide with the Middle East and Africa Duty Free (MEADFA) Conference in Bahrain.

Our cover story features the hugely ambitious Hamad International Airport Expansion, whose opening we attended earlier this month.

The magnificent new arena features more than 90 brands in one shopping area, a world-class art collection, a refreshing environment with lush greenery, and a 10,000sq m indoor tropical garden called The Orchard with a 268sq m water feature – designed as a focal point for all travellers.

The project – opened just before the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – epitomises the investment mindset that has driven many Qatar Airways Group developments in recent years. And there is much more to come.

We profile many other exciting developments in the Middle East as this vibrant regional travel retail market roars back to life.

Bassam Al Wardi, CEO of MEADFA host Bahrain Duty Free, discusses progress since a new terminal opened at Bahrain Airport in early 2021. Dubai Duty Free Chief Operating Officer Ramesh Cidambi talks about recovery and assesses some of the challenges, from supply chain to pricing, that lead the agenda in the return to travel phase.

We profile the latest activities among other regional powerhouse players such as ARI-Middle East and Dufry, alongside national travel retailers such as Iraq Duty Free, IDF Trading and Jordanian Duty Free Shops.

You’ll find much more in this issue too, including several big highlights from the recent Trinity Forum in Singapore.

We hope you enjoy this November edition, and look forward to meeting many of you in Bahrain.
