TheCHOYA FROM THE BARREL
The expression is aged for five years in total

Japanese ume fruit liqueur producer Choya has launched a new umeshu expression, ‘The Choya From the Barrel’, in Japanese duty free. The liqueur will be presented at next month’s TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition (stand J31).

The limited edition is priced at JPY¥4000 (US$38) and is available at Narita, Haneda and Kansai airports. Production of The Choya From the Barrel is limited to 12,000 bottles per year.

To produce the liqueur, ume fruit is aged for three years in cane spirit and sugar in a glass fibre tank before being transferred to oak casks for two years. During the second part of the ageing process, the umeshu obtains its rich flavours and notes of almond.
