Lagardère Travel Retail opens Sandro and Maje boutiques at Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex in Sanya

Lagardère Travel Retail has teamed up with SMCP Group to open Sandro and Maje boutiques in the Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co-controlled Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex (海旅免税城) in downtown Sanya. This represents the debut for both brands in Hainan’s burgeoning offshore duty free market.

Lagardère Travel Retail said that Sandro and Maje “inspire Parisian chic around the world”. The new openings build on a partnership that saw the travel retail launch of Sandro and Maje in Mainland China airports last year.

Lagardère Travel Retail is support partner to local state-owned company Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co (HTDF), which holds the retail licence and opened in Sanya late last year.

The two Sanya boutiques, 165sq m and 155sq m in size, offer a full range of ready to wear and accessories, bringing to life the vibrant merchandising and constant creative renewal the two fashion labels are known for, Lagardère Travel Retail said.

The openings add to Lagardère’s luxury fashion footprint of over 140 doors in China travel retail and support the local government’s strategy of diversifying Hainan’s brand offer and appealing to a broader consumer base.

Having launched in Sanya as a support partner to local state-owned company HTDF, Lagardere Travel Retail has brought almost 300 brands to the Hainan duty free market, over a dozen of which are new launches on the island. Further exclusive launches are planned for the months ahead.

Lagardère Travel Retail CEO for North Asia Eudes Fabre said: “Launching Sandro and Maje for the first time in Hainan in partnership with SCMP Group reflects our ambition to broaden the appeal of off-shore duty free shopping in Hainan and meet the expectations of an increasingly sophisticated customer base.

“To sustain rapid growth over time, the market in Hainan will need to continue introducing new brands across categories and price points. We are pleased to contribute our global merchandising and operational expertise to the flourishing of Hainan’s duty free market.”
