AUSTRIA. Lagardère Travel Retail has begun food & beverage services at two Austrian railway stations through its acquisition of Tekro Restaurant Betriebsgesellschaft.
From 1 May, Lagardère took over the operation of five outlets with around 80 employees. The units are: Deli Snack & Shop and Lavazza Caffè Espresso Bar at Graz railway station and Wiener Café & Restaurant Johann, Burger King and another Lavazza Caffè Bar at Salzburg railway station.
Lagardère Travel Retail CEO Germany, Austria and Slovenia Thomas Wiesel said: “We are delighted that we are now able to extend our gastronomic commitment in Austria at two important station locations, which is a clear statement of the continuation of our expansion strategy.
“In addition, we warmly welcome the fully taken over and highly motivated team, with which we will gain additional extensive gastronomic competence.”
Lagardère said contracts with the Austrian Federal Railways are long term and provide potential for further cooperation in the future.
Wiesel said that Lagardère plans to modernise existing food services in other locations, while further new outlets in Graz and Salzburg, as well as at other station locations in Austria, are to be developed.
Lagardère now runs 40 outlets in travel retail in Austria, including restaurants at Vienna, Graz and Salzburg airports.
