Lagardère Travel Retail extends Adelaide Airport presence with contract for gourmet destination concept

AUSTRALIA. Lagardère Travel Retail will open its first Southern Providore concept, developed for Adelaide Airport, after being awarded a destination goods concession at the South Australia location.

An evolution of the company’s Icons concept, the 286sq m store in domestic departures will house gourmet wine and produce from the region.

Southern Providore: A new concept from Lagardère Travel Retail designed to showcase the best of South Australia at Adelaide Airport.

Lagardère Travel Retail Pacific CEO Przemek Lesniak said: “We are delighted that Adelaide Airport has awarded and trusted us with this exciting concept. We understand that travel is a sensorial experience and wanted to showcase this through a regional focus, so we specifically tailored Southern Providore for the airport. It will ensure the travellers and community will enjoy a curated selection of the very best from SA, in a unique environment reflecting the region.”

The range will ‘hero’ the local region and offer a small range of ‘best of Australia’ items to cater for international passengers who may not have the opportunity to visit.

The store will sell coffee, tea, condiments, cheeses, wines, chocolates, confectionery, health & beauty and gifting products from national and international brands. South Australian brands will include Penfolds, 23rd St Distillery, Haighs, Robern Menz, Charlesworth Nuts, Jurlique, Maine Beach, and Bickfords.

Southern Providore will also include a boutique tasting café serving Cirelli Coffee, a local boutique coffee roaster, small plates of local fare, and local wines, beers and spirits by the glass.

The store design aims to evoke a South Australia Sense of Place, and will feature seasonal in-store tastings and showcases from resident farmers.

Lagardère Travel Retail Strategy & Development Director Paul Ryan said: “In creating Southern Providore, we purposefully captured every sense to trigger memories, evoke emotions and stimulate curiosity. Southern Providore won’t stay still, changing with seasons to offer the ‘best of the best’.”

The store design aims to capture a South Australia Sense of Place, and will blend tasting with shopping by offering seasonal in-store tastings and resident farmers. The environment will house an ‘all-Australian ute’, the FJ Holden, a link between the history of Adelaide and the supply of grocers and goods to market, dating back to 1856.

Adelaide Airport Head of Retail & Commercial – Terminal John Pearce said: “The Southern Providore concept meets our brief to create a uniquely South Australian retail experience that will showcase the State’s wonderful wine and produce to the world. It will be a key component of our greatly enhanced retail offering as part of our wider terminal expansion now under construction.”

In March, Lagardère Travel Retail was awarded the duty free and International F&B concessions at Adelaide Airport. The new stores will open throughout 2020 and early 2021, complementing the retailer’s 13-store presence at the airport.

An impressive array of regional brands will be on display at the new store, part of a series of openings from Lagardère Travel Retail in 2020 and 2021.
