“L.A. taste of place”: SSP America wins ten-year contract to develop food marketplace at Los Angeles International

USA. SSP America is to develop and operate a food & beverage marketplace at Los Angeles International Airport Terminal 1 under a ten-year contract.

The SSP Group division was awarded the contract by the City of Los Angeles Department of Airports and Westfield. It covers five new restaurants in a total area of 9,160sq ft, including 3,983sq ft of restaurant space.

Star attraction: Hollywood actor Danny Trejo has appeared in numerous films, often playing villains and antiheroes

SSP America said it would introduce a mix of local celebrity and chef-led outlets along with national brands such as Chick-fil-A, Pei Wei and Einstein Bros. Bagels.

Of the local favourites, Cassell’s Hamburgers offers burgers, sandwiches, salads and sides from chef Christian Page. Los Angeles native and Hollywood star Danny Trejo is the face of Trejo’s Tacos, which serves chef-driven Mexican dishes and tacos that resonate “with hipster foodies and Millennials alike”.

SSP America Vice President of Business Development Scott Welding commented: “With its recent jump from the seventh busiest airport in the world to the fourth, Los Angeles International has solidified its position as one of the fastest growing hubs worldwide. [Its] continued growth is a direct result of LAWA’s and Westfield’s proactive inward investment.

“In addition, Southwest Airlines’ US$515.8 million investment in Terminal 1 underscores the commitment of lasting partnerships to the future of Los Angeles International as well as the economic prosperity of the Southern California region.

“SSP America is delighted to be a part of this growth and investment. Our mix of high-performing national brands and poplar local brands backed with star-studded, chef-driven prominence will bring variety, choice and a true L.A. taste of place to Southwest passengers.”
