Kuwait International inaugurates Terminal 4 as airport expansion continues

KUWAIT. The new Terminal 4 at Kuwait International has officially opened, following an announcement by its operator, Incheon International Airport Company (IIAC).

Dufry and partner That-Al-Salasil recently struck a five-year deal to manage duty free at the terminal. As reported, the partners recently opened a 470sq m store in the new T5.

T4 spans 55,000sq m and can handle 4.5 million passengers per year through its 14 gates. IIAC was chosen as the operator after its bid was selected in April.

Construction of the new terminal began in May 2017. Passenger flow at the airport has doubled in the past eight years.

The terminal was opened by Kuwaiti Civil Aviation Chairman Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah earlier this year. It is expected to generate US$60 million in revenue annually and provide 2,000 jobs. It will handle all Kuwait Airways destinations except New York.

Five-year food & beverage contracts were signed with Edam Group Restaurants & Cafes and M.H.Alshaya at values of KD4,526,000 (US$14.9 million) and 3,615,000 (US$11.9 million) respectively. Book sales were awarded to the That Al-Salasil Company for KD1,686,000 (US$5.5 million), also for five years.

“Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 4 has been opened in a record time of four months,” said Al-Sabah.

It is the first time that a foreign company has been permitted to operate a terminal at the airport, which is wholly owned by the Kuwaiti government.
