Irish (sporting) joy, English tears: Patrick Dorais and Wil Vlok win racing and rugby readers’ competitions with Walsh Whiskey

INTERNATIONAL. Al Nassma Director of Sales Patrick Dorais and Wil Vlok, Executive Group Media Sales at South African out-of-home media specialist Provantage, have each won a bottle of premium Irish whiskey in our latest readers’ sporting competitions with Walsh Whiskey.

As reported, we partnered with the County Carlow-based distillery to offer readers the chance to one of two superb prizes: a bottle of The Irishman Single Malt Marsala Cask Finish (an ARI travel retail exclusive) plus a bottle of Writers’ Tears Copper Pot Japanese Cask Finish (which was initially made available as a travel retail exclusive through ARI).

Writers’ Tears Japanese Cask Finish (left) was released ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, where England outperformed Ireland. But on Saturday last it was England fans shedding tears after a strong Irish showing at the Aviva Stadium. Right is The Irishman Single Malt Marsala Cask Finish, an ARI exclusive.

Entrants from the travel retail industry were asked to guess the results of two high-profile sporting contests over the past week: the number of Irish vs. UK winners at the Cheltenham horse racing festival; and the Six Nations rugby match between Ireland and England on Saturday.

Both contests resulted in emphatic wins for Ireland. Aided by the superb performance of leading jockey Rachael Blackmore, Irish-trained horses captured 23 of 28 races at Cheltenham. In the rugby, Ireland won 32-18 (a surprise result that very few came close to predicting).

Closest to the final results were Patrick Dorais (racing) and Wil Vlok (rugby), to whom we send congratulations (and shortly, through our partner Walsh Whiskey, a bottle of The Irishman and Writers’ Tears respectively). We extend our thanks to the many readers from around the world who took part.
