International Shoppes captures Boston duty free concession

US. International Shoppes has been awarded the key duty free concession at Boston Logan Airport Terminals B and E, which are managed by Airmall USA (formerly BAA USA).

A spokesman for airport operator Massport confirmed the news to The Moodie Report, saying the company would begin its concession on 1 January 2012. It replaces incumbent Duty Free Americas.

The contract covers two stores each in terminals B and E. Terminal E is the principal international terminal at Boston, handling, among others, Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa, Alitalia, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Virgin, SWISS, Delta and some American Airlines departing international flights.

Terminal B handles some American Airlines international departing flights, as well as those from Air Canada, plus some international departing flights from US Airways.

Terminal A also has one duty free shop, though this does not come under the terms of the new deal. Terminals A and C at Boston are handled by Westfield Concessions.

International Shoppes is proving itself a highly innovative duty free retailer, with executions such as its recent drive behind Hendrick’s Gin, as seen here at JFK International Airport Terminal 8

International Shoppes has a strong track record at airports on the US east coast, with concessions in place at New York JFK, Newark, Philadelphia and Washington Reagan airports. The company is celebrating its 50th year of airport operations, having opened its first store at Idlewild Airport (now JFK) in 1961.

Airmall USA, Inc. is the developer and manager of the retail and food & beverage operations at Pittsburgh International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport (Terminals B and E), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
