Euromonitor Research Analyst Christy Tawii said: “Many countries are moving away from only promoting Africa as a traditional safari destination”

“The introduction of new and increased direct air connectivity to and from major overseas markets, increased interest from overseas visitors, and aggressive brand marketing campaigns (are) expected to boost inbound arrivals to the region,” the company noted.

Euromonitor Research Analyst Christy Tawii said: “Many countries are moving away from only promoting Africa as a traditional safari destination and exploring other niche categories such as beach and medical tourism. The travel and tourism market continues to introduce products that suit different types of travellers, accounting for strong growth in major cities across sub-Saharan Africa.”

Across the whole continent, data from seat bookings analyst ForwardKeys suggests the northern African tourism markets of Tunisia, Egypt, and Morocco have rebounded strongly in the wake of previous terrorism and security incidents to show respective growth of +33.5%, +24.8% and +20.5% in the first seven months of 2017 (see chart below).
