India to resume international flights from 27 March

INDIA. International air travel to and from India is set to resume on 27 March, marking an end to restrictions that have lasted for around two years. The news comes as a major boost to tourism, aviation and travel retail sectors in the country.

A statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said today that the move would coincide with the beginning of the Summer flight season.

The DGCA said that this would mean termination of ‘air bubble’ arrangements with other states, and that airlines would respect previous seat capacity entitlements.

News of the reopening comes as a big boost to retailers such as Delhi Duty Free

Minister of Aviation JM Scindia said: “After deliberation with stakeholders and keeping in view the decline in the COVID-19 caseload, we have decided to resume international travel from 27 March onwards. I am confident the sector will reach new heights.”

A plan to resume international flights in December was shelved due to the spread of the Omicron variant.
