Incumbent Lagardère Travel Retail captures Adelaide International Airport duty free and F&B concessions

AUSTRALIA. Lagardère Travel Retail has won a nine-year contract to run duty free and international departures F&B at Adelaide Airport. Amid a A$165 million expansion of the main terminal, the retailer will double the space for duty free and have an overall commercial footprint of around 1,700sq m.

Lagardère Travel Retail will introduce its Aelia Duty Free branding to both arrivals and departures and open a flagship bar and café in international departures, Hills Kitchen & Bar. The new stores will open throughout 2020 and early 2021.

The retailer will double space for duty free and dining, with Sense of Place prominent in its store designs and product offer.

The new offerings, said the retailer, “will showcase the best of the South Australian region, together with the best national and international global brands”.

Przemyslaw Lesniak, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail in Pacific, said the contract gain marks a milestone for the group, which has operated at the airport since 1997.

“The partnership is strong, and together with Adelaide Airport’s vision to bring an innovative and unique retail experience to showcase the best of South Australia, we look forward to delivering exactly that to the travellers through Adelaide Airport in the major terminal redevelopment,” he said.

Lagardère Travel Retail in Pacific Chief Strategy & Development Officer Paul Ryan said: “We looked at how a connected retail journey would be experienced in such a unique airport as Adelaide Airport, both in-store and online.”

The store will feature local Sense of Place through a range of local products, supported by design elements, underpinned by the four Aelia Duty Free pillars: ‘The Art of the Gift’, ‘Facilitation’, ‘Care’ and ‘Here & Nowhere Else’.

Hills Kitchen & Bar will offer seasonal produce and a locally-themed menu, with the name evoking the landscape of the region.

The new restaurant and bar aims to evoke the regional landscape around Adelaide and champion its produce.

Paul Ryan, Chief Strategy & Development Officer for Lagardère Travel Retail in Pacific region, said: “We looked at how a connected retail journey would be experienced in such a unique airport as Adelaide Airport, both in-store and online.

“We worked very closely with our local product partners to ensure our offer showcases the best of the best of South Australia’s regions, and with our global partners to bring the best of the world. The offer is tailored specifically to bring the unique experience of visiting South Australia through store design, in-depth product ranging, visual merchandising and outstanding customer service engagement.”

Adelaide Airport Head of Retail and Commercial – Terminal John Pearce said: “Lagardère has an outstanding global record when it comes to travel retail, so we look forward to a world-class offering that will enhance the experience of travellers and visitors even further when they come to Adelaide Airport.”

As reported, the airport issued an RFP for the business last September, as it began an upgrade of international arrivals and departures, creating more retail and dining options for both domestic and international travellers. Other commercial opportunities include domestic airside premium fashion sites and an international airside news and books site.

Lagardère Travel Retail operates 13 stores at Adelaide Airport across travel essentials, duty free & fashion and food services.
