CHINA. Any fears that Golden Week shopper and spending numbers would disappoint in Hainan due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Fujian province (now well under control) have surely been eliminated by scenes across all the island’s duty free shops today and in the earlier run-up to National Day.
Crowds have been pouring into the shops and business is not so much brisk as breakneck. Indeed, based on these images from Haikou, Golden Week looks set to have an extra shine.
That view is very much confirmed by GDF Plaza, which on 29 September posted an all-time daily sales high. Full story coming soon.
