Image of the Day: Sydney Airport’s new luxury arena takes shape

Our regular feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Today we bring you a sneak visual preview of the new luxury arena at Sydney Airport’s International Terminal (T1), where Louis Vuitton is preparing to open its first travel retail store in the Southern Hemisphere in 2022.

As reported, the great French brand will anchor a reinvigorated luxury retail precinct, and will be the largest stand-alone luxury store in T1. Our images, courtesy of the team at Sydney Airport (via social media), show the prime positioning of the store, and the stylish hoardings that surround the boutique as the building begins.

Preparing to open up: With international travel slated to begin again around year-end, subject to an easing of restrictions, Sydney Airport is readying itself to wow travellers with its new luxury precinct

They also show the impressive range of other boutiques that will open as part of the project. Other brands to be introduced next year for the first time at the airport include Saint Laurent, Dior, Moncler, Loewe, Celine, Bottega Veneta, Prada, Balenciaga and Gentle Monster. Two more are in final negotiations. Each of these brands has agreed a six-year lease to 2027.

Existing luxury tenants are also using the temporary pause in international travel to renew their positioning. Gucci is set to double its gross floor space to approximately 300sq m and Tiffany & Co is relocating and building an all-new, custom designed store.
