Until recently, this daily feature offered a regular snapshot of vibrant scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere. As the COVID-19 crisis brings the worldwide travel industry to a near halt, the images we see are increasingly ones of emptiness. But today’s choice is one of empathy, compassion and hope.
As reported in our popular ‘Love in the time of Coronavirus’ column, Italian eyewear company Luxottica has lit up its plant in Argodo as a poignant tribute to health workers trying to stem the pandemic in hard-hit Italy.
In a statement shared via LinkedIn, the company said, “Our daily routines have been abruptly interrupted, our lives shaken, and our resolve tested. We are making every effort to adapt quickly, and, as always, with a strong sense of responsibility.
“We continue to put passion and love into what we do every day. And when life returns to normal, we will be more united and stronger than ever.”
Luxottica Group CEO Leonardo Del Vecchio has also donated €10 million and six respirators to the Fiera Milano hospital, through his charitable foundation. The company is also donating hundreds of thousands of protective masks to Italian hospitals and public health institutions, as well as to its global health partners.
