Our new daily feature celebrates memorable scenes. moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Today’s choice is as appropriate as it is breathtaking, writes Martin Moodie. The Moodie Davitt Report has taken up residence in Hong Kong for three works to bring our readers exclusive coverage of three (very) Grand Openings from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). First Dermot Davitt and Melody Ng were on hand for the inauguration of The Shilla Duty Free’s Beauty&You stylish fragrances, cosmetics and accessories stores.

Then Dermot passed the baton to me, as I flew in from London to join Melody for the unveiling of the vibrant Sweet Dreams by Heinemann concession. And this week I’ll be covering another red-ribbon day as CDF-Lagardère Company Limited – a joint venture between China Duty Free Group and Lagardère Travel Retail – officially unveils its Duty Zero wines, spirits, tobacco and gourmet food shop on Thursday.

Lots of opportunity then to get up close to the shopping scene at HKIA. But yesterday I gained a very different view of the airport. I took this photograph on my iPhone 8 from the Ngong Ping 360 cable car in Tung Chung. What a wonderful panorama it offers of HKIA and the surrounding sea, land and islands. Operationally and shopping-wise, this is one of the world’s great airports. In terms of external spectacle, it may have no peer.
