Image of the day: Happy Socks turns 100

Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

Today’s choice salutes a brand that has made many people, not just its owners, happy in 2018. From Aleksander Milenkovic, Global Retail Manager at Happy Socks, comes this image of the brand’s 100th store, opened on 8 December in Times Square, New York.

The company has developed from just 12 concept stores to the century mark in less than three years – with travel retail playing an increasingly important role in its growth.

Who can forget the priceless moment (pictured below) at The Trinity Forum in Shanghai this year when Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin paid tribute in his inimitable style to one of the event’s sponsors. “I’m happy to be here,” he told moderator Martin Moodie on stage. “And because I’m happy to be here, I decided to wear the socks that one of the sponsors had kindly put in the delegate bag – because they’re Happy Socks.”

With Moodie also wearing his Happy Socks, it was a fun interaction that showcased the simple pleasure that colourful footwear can bring. Pleasure? Make that happiness.

Colm McLoughlin is well-used to celebrating many a sales feat. On this occasion though he celebrated happy feet.
Martin Moodie responds in colourful kind.
