Image of the day: An Omani dream becomes reality

Our daily feature celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns from the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

We are on location in Oman, one of the jewels of the Gulf, for a proud moment in the country’s history: the official opening of the new airport (soft opened in March). We are here as guests of Muscat Duty Free to mark the occasion, with the full story on the retail offer to follow after Sunday’s inauguration. Before then, we’ll be taking part in a series of formal and social events in the run up to the big day.

One of them occurred last night, when The Moodie Davitt Report (representing travel retail) and other international media were guests of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the newly created Oman Aviation Group. Memorably the dinner took place in the shadow of the new terminal, which you can see beautifully lit up in one of the national colours as Oman’s National Day approaches.

Minister for Transport and Communication His Excellency Dr Ahmed Al Futaisi said: “This was a dream for us and is now a reality. We worked very hard for many years to make it come true. This is a very important event for the country.”

*Watch out for a video interview with His Excellency, coming soon, plus full coverage of the opening and of the retail offer.
