Ian Macleod Distillers launches Tamdhu single malt into travel retail with Dufry

Ian Macleod Distillers has released Speyside single malt whisky Tamdhu into global travel retail in an exclusive partnership with Dufry.

Two Tamdhu single malt expression channel exclusives – Tamdhu Ámbar 14yo and Tamdhu Gran Reserva First Edition – are now available in World of Whiskies at selected World Duty Free stores in the UK.

Taking centre stage: A display of the Tamdhu travel retail exclusives in the WDF store at Edinburgh Airport.

The Scotch malt whiskies produced by the Tamdhu Distillery date back to 1897 when it was founded on the banks of the River Spey. The following year, the founders secured their first shipment of sherry casks from Spain. Tamdhu Distillery continues that tradition today and matures its single malt exclusively in European and American Oloroso sherry casks.

Ian Macleod Distillers said that Tamdhu Ámbar (RRP – £69.99/US$91.74) and Tamdhu Gran Reserva (RRP – £149.99/US$196.60) celebrate the strong Spanish heritage of Tamdhu.

Ámbar, which means amber in Spanish, is matured for 14 years in Oloroso casks. Meanwhile, Gran Reserva uses only first fill Oloroso casks, which the producer said are selected to give the whisky a rich mahogany colour and “outstanding” taste.

The Tamdhu travel retail exclusives were officially launched in an event at Edinburgh International Airport with members of the Dufry team and Tamdhu Distillery Manager Sandy McIntyre, who shared stories of Tamdhu’s heritage with shoppers and signed bottles in store.

We look forward to consumers tasting this wonderfully complex sherry cask matured whisky.”

Dufry Liquor Category Manager Matthew Scott-Fairweather said: “The addition of Tamdhu to our portfolio is very exciting and we relish the opportunity to showcase it and share the Tamdhu experience with travellers and whisky enthusiasts.”

Ian Macleod Distillers’ travel retail-focused core brand portfolio is rooted in single malt and blended Scotch whisky and gin, and includes Glengoyne Single Malt, Smokehead Single Malt, King Robert 11 blended whisky and Edinburgh Gin.
