Ian Macleod Distillers launches first airport exclusive Tamdhu Single Cask

Ian Macleod Distillers, in partnership with Dufry and Edinburgh Airport, has launched its first ever airport exclusive Tamdhu Single Cask Speyside single malt whisky.

Tamdhu Single Cask 70cl (RRP £279/US$369) is a limited release of 597 bottles and is the oldest single cask released from the Tamdhu Distillery. It was distilled in November 2002 and bottled in February 2019, using first-fill Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.

Just 597 bottles of Tamdhu Single Cask 70cl are exclusively available at Edinburgh Airport.

Described as an artisanal Scotch malt whisky, Tamdhu is made with water drawn from Tamdhu Distillery’s spring on the banks of the River Spey. There, it is matured in sherry seasoned casks, which have been crafted in the cooperages and bodegas of Jerez for up to six years.

At the launch, Distillery Manager Sandy McIntyre signed bottles and shared the Tamdhu heritage with shoppers.

Tamdhu Single Cask was chosen by members of the Dufry and Edinburgh Airport teams in November 2018 during a visit to the Tamdhu Distillery.

Ian Macleod Distillers Global Travel Retail Director William Ovens said: “We had an incredibly enjoyable and memorable day up at the Tamdhu Distillery and tasted eight exceptional casks and one stood out.

“We are very confident that consumers will be wowed by this incredible first fill European Oak Sherry Cask, which marks another chapter in the dynamic evolution of the brand in global travel retail.”

The official launch of the release took place on 2 March in the World Duty Free store at Edinburgh Airport and was attended by the full Tamdhu Distillery team, headed by Distillery Manager Sandy McIntyre.

The full Tamdhu Distillery team travelled to Edinburgh Airport to see their creation hit the shelves.

Tamdhu was launched into global travel retail in November 2018 in selected World Duty Free main stores and World of Whiskies stores in the UK with Tamdhu Ámbar 14 year old and Tamdhu Gran Reserva First Edition.

Ian Macleod Distillers’ travel retail-focused core brand portfolio is rooted in single malt and blended Scotch whisky and gin, and includes Glengoyne Single Malt, Smokehead Single Malt, King Robert 11 blended whisky and Edinburgh Gin.

Tamdhu Single Cask has been allocated a high profile activation space in the Dufry store at Edinburgh Airport.

Tasting notes: Tamdhu Single Cask is described as featuring buttered warm fruit cake, strawberry, custard and orange zest flavours. On the nose it brings rich, concentrated dried fruit with a hint of vanilla and fresh oak.
