Ian Macleod Distillers and World Duty Free launch exclusive Glengoyne range in UK airports

Ian Macleod Distillers has launched a travel retail-exclusive Glengoyne Highland single malt whisky range in all World Duty Free-managed UK airport stores.

The Glengoyne Spirit of Oak Collection includes four Highland single malt expressions, created to showcase the sherry oak casks used to mature the Glengoyne Distillery spirit. The collection is presented in a range of gift packs, which are signed by Glengoyne Distillery Manager Robbie Hughes.

The 1-litre Glengoyne Cuartillo and Glengoyne Balbaína are available now in World Duty Free stores across UK airports.

Glengoyne Cuartillo (40% ABV, RRP £49.99) is matured in first-fill American Oak Oloroso sherry casks, and has notes of toffee, green apple and vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon. Glengoyne Balbaína (43% ABV, RRP £58.99) is matured in first-fill European Oak Oloroso sherry casks and has notes of honey, raisins, red apples and cloves.

Glengoyne Pedro Xíménez Cask Finish and Glengoyne 28yo will launch in January 2019.

The 70cl Glengoyne Pedro Xíménez Cask Finish (46% ABV, RRP £89) is matured in European and American oak, and finished in Pedro Xíménez sherry casks. It offers notes of oak, spice and caramelised sugar.

Ian Macleod Distillers describes the Glengoyne 28yo (46.8% ABV, RRP £420) as “a dram with exceptional heritage”. It offers notes of fruit and spice after maturing in first-fill sherry casks.

“Our range gives consumers the unique opportunity to explore whiskies which have been matured in a range of high quality sherry oak casks – a process which is rooted in the DNA of Glengoyne.”

Glengoyne takes its name from the Gaelic Glenguin, meaning Glen of the Wild Geese. According to Ian Macleod Distillers, Glengoyne Highland single malt Scotch whisky is known as the “unhurried malt”. It is crafted to a 200-year-old recipe and process which uses the slowest stills in Scotland, and is one of the only Scottish whiskies to be distilled from unpeated malted barley.

Ian Macleod Distillers Global Travel Retail Director William Ovens said: “We are delighted that Glengoyne is returning to UK airports, as we know there have been frequent requests from travellers and malt enthusiasts as they have been passing through UK airports.

“Our range gives consumers the unique opportunity to explore whiskies which have been matured in a range of high quality sherry oak casks – a process which is rooted in the DNA of Glengoyne.”
