Hudson wins ten-year contract to open nine stores at Indianapolis International

USA. Hudson Group has won a ten-year contract to operate nine stores at Indianapolis International Airport.

The Dufry-owned company will open a range of travel convenience, luxury retail and speciality brands as well as tailored local concepts in nearly 9,000sq ft of space.

The contract is part of the airport’s concessions refresh programme. As reported, Paradies Lagardère has also been awarded a retail concessions package.

Hudson Group is anchored by its Hudson, Hudson News and Hudson Bookseller brands and operates more than 1,000 duty paid and duty free stores in 87 locations.

Hudson’s stores include three travel essentials concepts. Hoosier Crossing offers products based on four clearly defined primary categories – media, essentials, marketplace and destination. The concept is inspired by Indianapolis’ state motto, ‘The Crossroads of America’, and includes a number of locally-inspired touches.

Hudson will offer books, magazines, snacks, beverages, travel and convenience necessities, local souvenirs and electronics. It is colour-coded for ease of navigation.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway-inspired travel convenience concept Pitstop by Hudson features auto racing finishes, an oval structure mirroring the track, and signage reminiscent of a back-lit leader board. Its offer includes Hudson Group’s proprietary ‘Traveler’s Best’ fresh, grab-and-go food line.

Hudson Group CEO Roger Fordyce says the concepts at Indianapolis International will offer “a dynamic mix of excitement and world class customer service, while delivering an authentic Sense of Place”.

Among the speciality retail concepts, toy store FAO Schwarz is said to offer a “transformative” retail experience with signature toys and items, as well as FAO Schweetz treats and sweets.

Ink is Hudson Group’s new contemporary bookstore. The concept aims to serve as a cultural hub at the airport and features a curated assortment of bestsellers, small press titles, classics, prizewinners, and local favourites, as well as a selection of toys, stationery, fashion, artwork, and travel essentials.

Tech on the Go will feature a live-gaming lounge, giving travellers the opportunity to play video games while waiting for their flight to depart. The store will feature products from brands such as Belkin, House of Marley, Wicked, Monster and Mophie.

Business, accessory, and travel lifestyle brand Tumi will also feature at the airport, offering a range of bags and travel accessories for both leisure and business passengers.

Vineyard Vines offers a selection of apparel and accessories for men and women, and is described by Hudson as a “classic, yet contemporary” concept.

“Hudson Group is dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences to our passengers, and with the Indianapolis International Airport’s recent top honours as best airport in North America [in a Condé Nast Traveler survey], we knew that only the most unique and distinguished concepts would make the cut,” said Hudson Group Chief Executive Officer Roger Fordyce.

“We are pleased to partner with the Indianapolis Airport Authority to offer our customers a dynamic mix of excitement and world class customer service, while delivering an authentic Sense of Place that is truly Indiana.”
