Hong Kong International Airport invites tenders for bookstore concessions covering 13 outlets – 27/07/09

HONG KONG. Airport Authority Hong Kong is inviting interested parties to an open tender for its bookstore concessions. The tender applies to 13 outlets located in Terminals 1 and 2 in two licences, covering a total retail space of 1,361sq m.

Bookstore outlets in both T1 and T2 are strategically located in high-traffic areas around major boarding gates, key concourse zones and non-restricted areas.

Books, magazines and newspapers have always been among the top-selling items for travellers and visitors at Hong Kong International Airport, the airport authority said. According to a passenger survey conducted by The Nielsen Company in March 2009, each overseas customer spent an average of over HK$120 at bookstores at HKIA. Furthermore 55% of local departing passengers surveyed purchased books, magazines or newspapers at the airport.

HKIA is one of the world’s busiest international airports, having served 48.6 million passengers in 2008.

According to the Nielsen survey, over 50% of these passengers are business professionals and over 80% of overseas departing or arriving passengers have attained college/university or above education levels. The high concentration of educated professionals helps explain the popularity of reading materials among shoppers at HKIA, the authority said.

The tender will close on 18 September at 11am Hong Kong time. The tender document is available by post or can be collected from the offices of Airport Authority Hong Kong.

For details about this tender please send an e-mail to retailtender@hkairport.com or contact Ms Lai at +852 21833296 or Ms Fong/Mr Cheung at +852 21833200.

Details of the tender can also be found in the “˜Business Opportunities’ section of the airport’s website at www.hongkongairport.com
